Walking the Land: Discovering the Hopi Snake Kachina Emergence Opening?
Marty Reinstra and I try to hike once a week together. Today, we brought her flute and I brought my 200-year-old Tibetan drum. She’d chosen Rainbow Bridge trail (it’s also known as Devil’s Bridge Trail) where there was a beautiful sandstone arch, to hike to. She had a copy of Sedona, Sacred Earth book by Nicholas R. Mann, and felt intuitively, that this would be the right hike for us on Saturday, January 16, 2009. The day was sunny, in the 60’s, not a cloud in the sky and very, very low humidity.
Going into the area, on the left side was a butte. At the far end of it there was what looked like an eagle head.
Here is the ‘eagle head’ sandstone at the east end of this butte.
We arrived and went down the trail. I would get dizzy for a second and then it would go away. And then, it would happen again. I told Marty and she said that she felt the energy swinging back and forth between the two buttes where the trail was at. I thought that was accurate. I felt something was pulsing, off and on, and her explanation made sense.
Marty stopped a little way into the trail and said she’d like to go over to the left of it. I looked and saw a round circle where very little was growing within it. I pointed out how the trees and other bushes grew around it, but not in it. I told her this had to be some kind of sacred space. She said she felt it was a portal. I wasn’t getting any hits except that we needed to stay out of the center of it. I suggested that we sit near the edge of it and play our music to the spirits. I sat down, grounded myself, closed my eyes and began a slow drumming.
Here is what I call the ‘sun circle’ on the right side of the trail. Marty noticed this first and said she wanted to go in there and spend some time. I agreed. You can see the circle at the bottom of the photo. Notice how there is taller, larger vegetation around it. But where the circle is, only short scrub grows within it. Whenever you see a circle like this, pay attention. It means something. And what it means can be revealed with patience and some connection with the local spirits.
When I got in touch with the spirits of the place, I mentally asked them about this round circle and what did it mean. They told me it was a sun circle. And it was used by the Native Americans in ceremony during the winter months. I took this to mean the Winter Solstice might also have a tie to this–but they didn’t say that and I didn’t ask it. They showed me the top of the round circle opening like a lid with a latch on one side. As the ‘lid’ opened, I saw a round hole down below it. I looked in it and I saw the tunnel/hole going directly west out in the ‘valley’ of the surrounding area where we were at. Then, in the valley, it turned and went due south. I saw the tunnel going down through Central America and down through Ecuador, Peru all the way to the end of the South American continent. There, the hole turned and went INTO Mother Earth–deeper. But I stopped following it at that point.
I was really confused about this because I asked the spirits ‘why a tunnel?’ I had never seen anything like this before in a sacred circle. Marty Reinstra had gotten it was a portal. But in reality, it was a GATE that led below the earth. I was puzzled because I couldn’t understand what it meant at the time. The spirits kept saying it was the sun and sun ceremony.
I had to let that all go because it made no sense to me. I was hoping that more information could be obtained later. Well, after we stopped the flute and drumming, we walked about 300 feet further up on the trail. Marty said, “LOOK!” and she was pointing at the middle, rounded rock up on the butte in front of us.
This photo was taken at 2:02 p.m. The sun was behind and below the butte. This rainbow was not there minutes before our drumming because we’d looked in that direction and there was nothing to indicate a rainbow. After we’d left the Sun Circle and moved to a bend in the upward trail, this is what we saw.
There was the rainbow above the middle butte, rounded, that I’ll call the ‘knob’. This rainbow remained only in the vicinity of that rounded knob–not the red sandstone butte on either side of it–just THERE. At first, I thought I was seeing it clairvoyantly because I knew from a meteorological perspective, there was NO WAY a rainbow should be THERE. And then, I realized Marty was seeing it. And then a group of people came along and she said, “Look!” to them. This was a group of about ten people. They looked up, gasped, and immediately began taking photos with their cameras and cell phones. So, I knew that what I was seeing was real in the 3rd dimensional sense, and not clairvoyantly in another dimension.
I was stymied as I stood there. My science left brain told me this was impossible to be happening. I was a meteorologist in the US Navy. So, I know weather and weather stuff. First of all, no front was coming through (this would bring potentially, depending on whether it was a high or low) would bring more moisture into the atmosphere in order to create a potential rainbow. If there was more moisture, the sun would have had what we call a ‘sun dog’ around it. This is a rainbow-like refracted light ring around the sun and it occurs when high in the atmosphere there is enough water to create this effect. Also, humidity was 10% in the area. So, there is no way a rainbow appeared due to moisture in the air. Also, there were no cirrus or high clouds around that could have acted as a refracting layer, to create the rainbow, either. But, no front was coming through. It was a quiet, calm day in every possible meteorological way.
My right, mystical hemisphere whispered that it was magic. I rapidly began to put together the blocks to this occurrence appearing before us It’s important to note that Marty and I were looking at that butte quite regularly as we hiked into where we saw the sun ceremony circle. At no times was there a rainbow around it. This rainbow happened AFTER we’d played our music for the spirits.
Marty and I had come to this trail with my drum and her flute to play our music for the spirits of the area–to honor them–to give back to them through our love of music. Our intent was heart centered, pure and surrendering over to be part of the greater whole of energy of the area. When one’s intent is aligned with an area, magic can and does occur. As we opened our hearts, our intent to share our love with the area and the spirits there created this opening. In a sense, Marty and I were shamanic catalysts. We opened an energy door from via our intent. We did NOT make the things happen. Rather, we were a trigger point or a catalyst to the process–and the area responded to it.
I told Marty after seeing the rainbow, I knew it had something to do with us working with the spirits and energy of that round meadow-like area. The rainbow was pale at first (this was after the first drumming we performed at the sun circle, directly below where this ‘knob’ of a butte is located. I told her, “Let’s drum and flute some more. If my assumption is true, the rainbow will grow larger, intensify in color because it’s responding directly to us and our heart intent.” And that’s what we did.
We drummed another five minutes and by this time, a crowd of about another twenty people had gathered where we stood off at one edge of the trail. Everyone was murmuring in awe struck tones over the rainbow and how it was growing larger, more colorful and more intense. Everyone was gripped by the magic of the moment. So were we, but I understood that as shamans, we were door openers and we had opened a BIG door! The energy of that rainbow was incredible. It was light, lifting, joyous and everyone was excited and happy to be a part of this moment.
This is the second photo after the drumming and flute playing. This was taken at 2:18 p.m. Look at the difference. It is brighter, bigger, more well-formed and the colors more intense. Even more exciting was that the ends of the rainbow moved INTO the canyon and you can see it. Before that, the rainbow appeared to be BEHIND the knob. Now, it had moved FORWARD and TOWARD us and INTO the formations.
When the crowds moved on, we stayed there and continued to watch it. Marty asked, “Eileen? Is that rainbow coming INTO the rocks? Look at it.” Indeed, both ENDS of the rainbow above this knob were INTO the rocks on either side of it. The picture clearly shows this. I said, “Wow….we’ve really opened up something that’s been dormant for a long time.” I felt that if we continued to drum and flute, that the rainbow energy would begin to flow down the natural courses from the top of that butte to where the sun circle was at. I knew I wasn’t wrong about this.
This was taken at 2:20 p.m. and you can see a fully formed third arc in the rainbow. Before, it wasn’t there as fully formed at the 2:02 p.m. photo above. Check it out.
I purposely underexposed this photo to try and get the colors. The white you see is NOT the sun. The sun was always behind the butte and never topped it. What you’re seeing is the white energy field around the knob.
We pushed on up into the trail and the red sand stone steps.
After we left the place of the second drumming and the intensity of the rainbow occurring, we followed the trail upward. We came to this gorgeous, layered sandstone. I sat beneath it to drum once more while Marty played her flute.
Here was the underside of this beautiful geological architecture where we played our music.
We lost sight of our knob on our trail. When we finally reached the gorgeous red sandstone arch, Rainbow Bridge, we saw that the knob was in direct alignment with it. Marty said at that time that she thought she remembered from Nicholas Mann’s book, Sedona, Sacred Energy, that this area was considered to be a Yavapai ‘emergence’ point. An emergence opening is where those in spirit come through to this world to physically manifest (energy or whatever). To me, that made a LOT of sense. I felt that the knob was the emergence opening. No question in my mind about that. And that indeed, as in many myths of the Southwest, the first man and woman emerge from an opening and step over a bridge of some sort (in this case, a red sandstone arch) and step into the 3rd dimensional world of this Earth.
Here is Rainbow Bridge. It’s a huge red sandstone arch. Mythically, as it is in alignment with the ‘knob’ where the rainbow was at, this could be the ‘bridge’ that those in spirit came from the emergence opening the knob and then walked across the arch and into third dimensional reality and became human.
Surely, everything was in place for this to occur here. I was so excited by how everything with the land and rock and buttes lined up to double check me on this possibility.
We took this photo on the way up to the Rainbow Bridge sandstone arch. The colors had changed…and the gray you see was actually a pale, pale green but the camera can’t interpret it. And the colors above was purple. I don’t have an explanation for the change. But all energy is living and changes, such as breathing in and out and perhaps that is what was going on…this pulsation kind of energy where the color would change with the pulsing.
And then, we played the drum and flute near the arch pathway. It was at that time that I saw this weird looking cirrus cloud coming toward the butte. After we got done playing, we went down another path along the edge, left the arch, and followed it. We both saw the cloud. Marty said it looked like an angel or a dragon. You take a look and see what you see. What was of even more interest to my meteorological side was the cloud did not move–rather, it moved TOWARD us. And as we drummed and Marty played her flute, the cloud intensified, grew more thick and whiter in appearance. It continued to ‘hover’ right where we were. We drummed and fluted more in joyous harmony with a world that was reacting and responding to our heartfelt intent.
Here is that strange looking cloud that came up and formed. That is me, Eileen, with my 200-year-old Tibetan drum. This drum was hidden and taken from a temple in Tibet and brought out to a Tibetan rug maker who used to be in Sedona. Marty Reinstra saw this drum years ago and called me excitedly and told me I must come and see it. I saw it and bought it on the spot. It is truly a ‘magical’ drum that has no equal.
When we got done with our playing and left the area, we watched the cloud suddenly drift apart and literally, disappear in about five minute’s time. That cloud and whatever you see or perceive of it, was Nature materializing to our catalytic intent to work with the local energies and spirits. I’ve seen clouds form, become strong and beautiful, and dissolve in minutes after a ceremony. So, this one was no different in that perspective.
What does this cloud look like to you? What do you see in it? I see a dragon. Marty saw an angel or a dragon.
We went back down the trail. By the time we got to where we could see the rainbow above the knob, it was gone. The sun had moved downward and was no longer right in alignment with the knob. I felt as if we’d witnessed a miracle of some sort. But what kind, escaped me. I told Marty we needed to go back to the sun ceremony circle and drum/play to connect the circle of energy we’d helped trigger. You see, when you go some place and create intention, heart energy and sincere humility with the spirits, things can happen. And they did. I explained to Marty that when you are part of an opening of energy that had gone dormant because no one came on a regular, cyclic, ceremonial basis to interact with the spiritual quality of a given area, it goes asleep.
When it is awakened, then the person or people need to read the signs and understand that at times, a circle or a completion of opening that energy needs to be performed. I understood from a lifetime of energetic interaction with places across the globe, that we had to bring this energy back to where it opened and ground it. By grounding it with intent, our physical bodies being present and most important, our heart intent, then the energy will submit to our desire. And so, we went back to the sun circle and drummed and played the flute. Afterward, Marty drew out bird seed and cornmeal. We asked permission by the local spirits if we could enter the sun circle. They said yes. We went in and we performed a simple ceremony with our gifts and then spread them across the circle in thanks. We then left the circle from the south gate, the same one we had come into it. It was done.
Marty and I were higher than kites on the way back to our car. Our feet were light. We felt as if we were floating. Our hearts were full and joyous. I knew we’d done something here that was important. But I didn’t know what until I got home.
I picked up my copy of Sedona, Sacred Earth by Nicholas R. Mann when I got home. I had the good fortune to meet him in Glastonbury, England at Chalice Wells in 2001. His incredible book is published by Light Technology of Flagstaff, AZ and can be ordered through their website. He had lived in Sedona earlier, for sixteen years. Among other things, he’s a geomancer: he can read the ‘lay of the land’ and understand the energy and chakra/vortex systems that are in any given area. He’d studied the Sedona red rocks for sixteen years and then published the results of his findings. His book is priceless and it was the one I turned too in hopes of finding out more about Rainbow Bridge area.
I was not disappointed. Nicholas mentioned that in the Book of the Hopi by White Bear, that there were six shrines said to be placed equidistant spatial order around the central emergence mound and kiva of the snake clan. Nicholas felt that Rainbow Bridge just might be this place of emergence. Later, he went on to write that the serpent energy was detailed in petroglyphs throughout the Mesoamerica area, including the Southwest. The serpent was known as Quetzalcoatal, the feathered (rainbow) serpent. It was also known as Kulkulcan. In the Aboriginal culture, they have the twin serpents of creation known as the Rainbow serpent of earth and sky. I had been over to Australia and worked seven days with Uluru, the ‘heart’ of our world and the center of Aboriginal beliefs. And so, he was looking at Rainbow Bridge as the possible emergence point for the Hopi serpent. It was said that the SNAKE KAHCINA rose out of this hole or opening of emergence.
Well, I’m here to validate for Nicholas that his ideas were correct. The rainbow appeared over the ‘knob’ hill right where he felt the emergence opening was at. A rainbow appeared and it has to do with the rainbow serpent. What a wonderful testament to his hard work.
My mind began racing as I read his information and pieced it together with my experience at the sun circle and with the Rainbow Bridge. I then realized the ‘hole in the ground’ at the opening of the sun circle was the SNAKE’S HOLE!!! The emergence of the Hopi snake Kachina on this butte has a lot more significance than either he or I realized. With this hole, which I was shown down in the earth, I realized it did look exactly like a snake hole. At the time, I couldn’t put it together. My mind was tied up with “why is there a tunnel UNDER the earth?” Rather than, “what did this tunnel look like?” If I had asked that question instead, I’d have said it looked like a snake’s hole. I’ve seen enough snake holes to know what I was looking at.
The fact that this tunnel/hole went south and I saw it through Central and South America double checks Nicholas assumption about the Incan Quetzalcoatl rainbow snake. And the Maya and Aztec also had the same rainbow/feather serpent in their mythology as well. My mind now asks: The Hopi snake Kachina is intimately tied with Central and South America. If I recall, among the Hopi there are parrot feathers from those areas, as well as shells from the ocean. There is great evidence to show the Hopi traded with Central and South American cultures. And so, this snake hole, which connect all three continents, is in place as well. Nothing is EVER disconnected from one another. I was so excited when I made these connections. I couldn’t have done it without Nicholas Mann’s observations and experience.
I can say, for myself, that the Hopi Snake Kachina emergence hole is at Rainbow Bridge. We now have photos to show the rainbow above the place of emergence. I’m sending it to Nicholas to show it to him. I hope to get feedback as well as to his thoughts about this.
This is the 2:18 p.m. photo once more. Study it closely. The rainbow energy that we saw at 2:02 p.m. was BEHIND the knob and butte. As we played, the rainbow literally moved INTO the area in front of the knob and between the two buttes on either side of it. That is a remarkable feat of energy and impossible meteorologically.
I’m very excited. I know that something was ‘awakened’ by what we had done out of our heart intent. And we’ve been shown enough information to realize this serpent point is something very special, sacred and magical. I’ll be going back there with Marty and we’re going to do more exploring. Hopefully, the spirits who take care of the sun circle, will give us more information. And who knows what else might happen? It’s a significant event because it has brought the feathered rainbow serpent of the Aboriginal, the Incans/Aztec and Mayans as well as the Hopi’s, back to us. There was an emergence or the rainbow wouldn’t have shown up. How this plays out, I don’t know. We’ll be around to find out. More as things develop!
I would love to hear your comments or your own experiences. If you have ever seen this type of phenomena, please share. In Spirit, Eileen
