Gemstones and Healing: Tiger’s Eye
CATALOGING THE GEMS
I evaluate a gemstone in a number of ways. First, it falls into one of these categories: Heart Stone, Grounding Stone, Guard Dog Stone, High Energy Stone, Trauma Stone, Mental Stone, Stress Tone, Luck Stone, Psychic Stone, Money Stone, Arthritis Stone and Master Healer Stone. I created this system over the years because each stone has unique skills. Some, like the Master Stones, are diverse, multi-skilled and affect more than one chakra in our aura. With this blog, we’re going to look at a Heart Stone: Tiger’s Eye.
MONEY STONES
A money stone is in a unique class by itself. There are two that I know of. One is Tiger’s Eye (all colors) and the other is Aventurine (all colors). Over the years I’ve observed people who wore either of these gemstones and they seemed to attract money to them. Now, this could be finding a dime on a sidewalk or it could be getting a raise at work, or unexpected money coming to them. Or, working hard and earning it. But the money DOES come in–and that’s the point.
I am reminded of an experience I had in the early 1980’s when the AFA had their convention in Las Vegas. My husband and had our booth set up there. One woman came in who was in a poker tournament at the same hotel. She asked me if any of these stones could help her win. I told her what I said above, no guarantee. She bought a Tiger’s Eye necklace and put it on and took off for the tournament. I asked her to please come back and let us know how she did. She came in the next day all smiles and told us she’d not only won the $10,000 pot, but that she was in the next poker round. I was pretty impressed. With Tiger’s Eye, it not only draws money to a person but it has an extra special gift: it imbues a person with super self-confidence. People who don’t believe in themselves or are afraid to take step toward their idea or dream, can utilize Tiger’s Eye to do just that. It is a very helpful stone to anyone who has low self-esteem. And it could be in Tiger’s Eye that as the person gains confidence in themselves or goes after their dream, that they will get more money as a result of their hard work and application.
THE HISTORY OF TIGER’S EYE
Tiger’s Eye is from the quartz/chalcedony side of the family. It has gold and brown bands within it. It is one of the ‘chatoyant’ gemstones. There is silky luster as the gem is turned, exhibiting its bright and scintillating gold bands. This is due to light reflected within the thin, fibrous bands within the gemstone. Tiger’s eye has a close cousin: Tiger Iron. Tiger’s Eye is mined in Western Australia, South Africa, USA, Canada, India, Namibia, and Burma.
Tiger’s Eye has a Mohs hardness of 7, with Diamond being the hardest at 10. It has a trigonal crystal system. It is a gold and brown color, although of late, there has been some RED tiger’s eye that has been found. This is known as “Tiger Iron” and is a mix of Tiger’s eye, red jasper and black hematite, making it look very beautiful. The rippled and wavy bands of color often remind one of a landscape view. Another type, Marra Mamba is a form of Tiger Iron found near Mount Brockman in Australia. It has shades of red, green, yellow and blue. It is quite rare.
There are also gray, gray-blue colors of this stone and they are usually called Falcon’s Eye. Sometimes, Tiger’s Eye is dyed and you may find it looking blue or blue-gray or red. Most Tiger’s Eye that is red is dyed. But there is some out there that is genuinely red and quite stunning looking.
The myths and legends surround Tiger’s Eye is that it is a protector, great for business and an aid in achieving clarity (the “eye”). It helps to separate ‘fact from fiction.’
THE ASTROLOGY OF TIGER’S EYE
This is a sun ruled stone. When you hold Tiger’s eye and move it around, you see the ‘sunlight’ within it gleam between the brown bands. Holding it, you feel its power. There’s a lot of steady, grounded vitality to this gemstone. It lifts a person’s mood as if they were leaving the gloom of a house and walking outside into bright, welcoming sunlight. And because this is a Sun ruled gemstone, the confidence that comes from the Sun is also a major part of this gem’s energy pattern and expression. Tiger’s Eye simply makes a person feel more confident and believing in themselves when they wear this stone. The wearer becomes the Sun from the standpoint that there’s a sense of feeling good about one’s self, believing in their unique abilities and moving forward because of them.
ASTROLOGY TRANSITS AND PROGRESSIONS
WITH TIGER’S EYE
Transits of Saturn to a person’s natal Sun can wear them down and out. It also can crush a person’s confidence as well as their self-esteem. If you find these qualities dissolving during Saturn’s aspect to your Sun, then wear Tiger’s Eye for a boost.
Any time a person’s sun comes under hard aspect by the outer planets, and their confidence or belief in themselves is shredded, Tiger’s Eye is the gem to come to the rescue. This is a gem that reaches inside each of us to show that we really are worthy. And that we are a valuable being on this planet.
Anyone with an illness just feels better with the sunny Tiger’s Eye being worn. There aren’t a lot of Sun ruled stones in the gem world and they are precious generators of physical energy. It also lifts a person’s spirit, no matter if they are depressed, grief-stricken or in a quandary in their life. If you are feeling down, wear Tiger’s Eye to come out of it.
THE EAST ENERGY
The sun rises in the East and sets in the West. The East is the sun’s door that gives light in our world. This direction is about birth, newness and being born in some way (it could be the birth of a new attitude, a new emotion, a new perspective or slant, etc.). It’s also the position of the newborn. Finding the innocent child within us is something we all need to recapture as adults. This is the position of the air element and of the wind blowing us like a leaf throughout our life. Where will it take us? What experiences will we have? When we get stuck, it’s good to have a gemstone with East energy because it picks us up and out of our of our rut, pulls us out from between the rock and the hard place we have put ourselves in.
WHO SHOULD WEAR TIGER’S EYE
Anyone who does not believe fully in themselves, who questions their ability, their intelligence and creativity, should wear Tiger’s Eye. Those who dream but are afraid to take the first step on the path toward grounding that dream into reality need it, too. Tiger’s Eye infuses a person with a quiet, grounded confidence. This is like holding sunlight in your hand only it radiates to our deep, inner self and connects with our knowing of who we really are. And it brings it out so that we can use it, growth by it and become the individual we were really meant to be.
People who are introverted can often utilize Tiger’s Eye to bring them into connections with others. Like the Sun, which is always an extrovert, so is Tiger’s Eye. It’s a great ice breaker for introverts. Shyness is dissolved with wearing of this gem. Anyone who is scattered, spacy or not in their body will be grounded. Those who need organization in their lives or who are always messy and missing appointments, or over sleeping and not getting to their job on time, should wear Tiger’s Eye.
And those who want to value who and what they are, should wear this gem. We all hesitate at times in our life and wonder if we really should do this, that or go after whatever is calling us. The value of Tiger’s Eye is symbolically it is a bank. Only, it is a repository of money and learning to value ourselves. It has the ability to support each of us getting “out there” and making our dreams and goals actually manifest. As a money stone, often Tiger’s Eye reflects back to you your own self-worth and value. That you are unique and the world needs you just as you are. And when you believe in yourself, you will make money. The Law of Attraction works when you are fully engaged and value yourself.
WHO SHOULD NOT WEAR TIGER’S EYE?
Ego maniacs. People who are arrogant. Greedy people who aren’t willing to work for the money this gemstone can attract. Tiger’s Eye has a very interesting ‘back door’ to it. I’ve seen people snap up a Tiger’s Eye necklace for reasons of sheer greed. And so many times, these people already had money–but they wanted more. And in those cases, Tiger Eye will not work with them or agree to support their greedy motivation.
SPIRITUAL CONSIDERATIONS
For people who have lost their way or don’t believe in themselves or the dreams they hold inside themselves, Tiger’s Eye is a fierce, brilliant Sun that shines into their lives. This gemstone can draw not only money, but people and situations who can support the wearer to his or her goals. And if money is needed, Tiger’s Eye will bring that to them so long as they’re willing to roll up their shirt sleeves and work hard to attain it. On the other hand if the person wants to sit back and just collect unemployment without going out there and knocking on doors and sending out resumes, Tiger’s Eye will not engage with this kind of lazy energy.
Tiger’s Eye works directly with the Solar Plexus Chakra (yellow color). The SPC is all about us being an Individual and believing in ourselves. When this chakra is blocked by debris from past lives or this one, then our self-esteem and belief in ourselves suffers. And since this gem is a member of the quartz family, it can ‘clear’ a chakra of positive ions so that it begins to function more normally. A healthy Solar Plexus Chakra gives a person tremendous confidence and belief in themselves. And if you don’t have that, then you know this chakra needs some cleaning up. Tiger’s Eye is the just the gemstone to do that for you.
When a person is depressed and has given up on themselves or what they can do in life, Tiger’s Eye is the coach who insists differently. This stone’s value goes far beyond the material money that everyone wants. It supports the soul’s direction for this lifetime and infuses the wearer with a powerful belief in themselves. When this happens, the person will literally move mountains and money will be earned directly because of them digging in, working, and making it happen.
HEALTH RAMIFICATIONS
Since ALL our diseases come from our fouled and toxic emotions (either dragged in from past incarnations into this one or the new batch we’ve created in this present lifetime….), Tiger’s Eye works mainly in the lower mental astral field. For those who are spacy, forgetful and ungrounded, try wearing it. Practicality and common sense also come with this gemstone’s teaching. It improve memory, aid focus and concentration.
(NOTE: do not stop taking any medication your doctor has ordered for you.)
IN SUMMATION….
When we don’t value ourselves, when we don’t think we are ‘good enough,’ or have nothing to give to the world, think again. Tiger’s Eye is ruled by the Sun. When you hold this gem in your hand and see the glowing gold between the bands of brown, you can feel its strength and sunny disposition. Not only that, Tiger’s Eye helps ground a person back into their body so they can get to work and earn a living. Or, to earn back their confidence and belief in themselves. When we are feeling lower than a snake’s belly in a wheel rut, think of Tiger’s Eye. This gemstone’s radiance is real and palpable. Within an hour of wearing it, you’ll feel the quiet, powerful sunlight starting to steal through all your personal misgivings.
