Rock Talk: Clearing Unhealthy Emotions
I had someone email me recently and ask about a rock that they have found in their back yard. It was a white, rounded porous rock.
MY ANSWER:
You have a beautiful sedimentary rock. This type of rock is formed by sediment (soil, leaves, dead critters, etc.), that fall into the water and settle at the bottom. Over time, it becomes sediment in streams, rivers, swamps, lakes, or oceans.
Did you know that many of our fossils around the world are found in sedimentary rock?
I call it a “water rock,” because it was created in it. Symbolically, water equates with our feelings, emotion and intuition.
What type of rock is it?
A rock of any type (sedimentary, igneous, or metamorphic) can become a mirror for looking deep into our psyche, our spirit, our emotions, and our physical body.
How should you use this kind of rock?
A sedimentary “water” rock will reflect something you need to become aware of. If you mentally ask the rock for healing, it will gently make you aware of the “coal in your sock.” These are wounds we receive throughout our lives (death of a parent, divorce, job loss, or other crisis in one’s life) and they are always emotional in content. We all accrue wounds along the way. For example, it can be a subconscious or conscious rage, depression, jealousy, grief, loss, or any other human emotion we carry within ourselves. By working with the rock, it can pull an awareness out of your subconsciousness and into your consciousness to heal—because once you know what the behavior is, you can begin to actively work to change the negative emotions into something more healthy.
I have had many reports over the years of people who work with a water rock, and experience unexpected bouts of crying. Crying is healing. It is a release and it helps us get over our loss, grief, or whatever is keeping us out of harmony within ourselves.
Starting the process: Working with any type of rock, be it sedimentary, igneous or metamorphic, is the same. Meditation is best. Any form of it. And if you don’t meditate, then close your eyes and sit quietly, instead. Do this when you’re at peace with yourself…and not angry or upset about something. Find a quiet place (no cell phone, no pets around, no interruptions by other humans). Place the rock in the palm of your LEFT hand in a comfortable position. It is our left side that draws energy INTO our aura, the fields and chakras, as well as into our physical body. If it’s a large rock, you can always place your palm over it. If it’s sharp, then place a soft cloth over it and then place your hand gently, palm down, upon it.
Sit or lay comfortably. Do not cross your ankles, arms, or wrists. Stay open. Close your eyes. Take 3 deep breaths in your nose and out your mouth—slowly. Draw your breath in slowly and deeply, all the way down into your belly and then slowly release it through your mouth. If you cross any part of your body, it can halt the energy that will be rising upward from Mother Earth through the soles of your feet (it’s okay to wear shoes, it comes through them just fine) and moving into your physical body, in order to assist you.
Next, visualize silver tree roots winding gently (not tightly) around each of your ankles. The tip of each root will go through the middle of your foot (it will not be uncomfortable) and down deep into the soil of Mother Earth—at least 50 to 100 feet (guesstimate).
Now that you are relaxed and grounded, allow yourself to sense, feel, hear, and perceive what happens. Don’t be surprised if the rock TALKS (mental telepathy) with you or if you sense or feel the spirit of the rock as it communicates with you.
Do this for no more than 15 or 20 minutes and then open your eyes and get reacquainted with the “here and now”. Pick up your journal or device, and write down anything you saw, heard, felt, or sensed. Make a record of any colors, symbols, sounds, music, singing, or any other form of communication with the rock/rock spirit who came to speak to you. Always put these experiences in your journal.
Also, were there any hot, cold, tingling, prickling, or goosebump sensations anywhere in your body? If so, where did it move from and to? Write all these things down. If you can, meditate every day. If it gets too intense for you, back off and do it two or three times a week—or whatever rhythm you find that is right for you. Watch for a synchronicity happening within 24-48 hours afterward. Also, keep a close eye on any dreams and put all of them into your journal. And if you have questions, this info is also in my book, Walking the Land by Eileen Nauman. It’s available in e-book and paperback.
